Catástrofes, responsabilidades e busca de soluções – Movimento Limpa Brasil

Due to an actual chaos brought by the constant raining in the first month of the year, inhabitants of the largest Brazilian cities are suffering the consequences of turbulent development, unplanned urbanization and overpopulation in urban areas. Recent reports show a growing need to take environment into consideration in all aspects of life and build a constructive and sustainable relationship with nature. Everybody knows, for example, that food comes – directly or indirectly – from the ground. Therefore, there are no reasons to ignore the well-being of the land and to poison it with undesirable substances. It is necessary that everyone gets involved with preservation and avoiding of degrading habits in order to prevent the humanity from suffering the consequences of environmental irresponsibility.

Avoiding natural disasters like the ones that happened recently in Brazil is something that every citizen can do through simple gestures, like recycling household waste, reducing consumption, treating residues properly and using less harmful alternatives. That is the intention of the Limpa Brasil Let’s do it! Movement: to gather efforts from all sectors of society in order to change the reality of illegal trash disposal and environmental neglect. The initiative’s purpose is to invite people who live in the largest Brazilian cities to take part in a global trash removing movement. It is necessary to start acting immediately, because the necessary actions become more complex, hard and expensive every day.

Through intense educational campaign and city clean-ups, the project intends to take a big step for environmental preservation and raise of society’s compromise with correct trash management in Brazil. The movement will last for 10 years to guarantee an effective change in people’s attitudes.

The successful international experience will start in Brazil in the beginning of June, during the global celebration of the Environment Week. 14 cities – all of them with more than 1 million inhabitants – will take part in the movement. Focused on education, the proposal is to gather people to help cleaning and to keep Brazilian cities free of trash.

Because trash contributes a lot to disasters like the recent ones, the project is also a preventive action when it comes to such happenings, as well as when it comes to diseases and other problems brought by bad management of residues. It is a concrete measure to improve the well-being of Brazilian people.
