The Future of Education – The Education of the Future

Education was chosen as the main subject of the IV International Forum for Communication and Sustainability due to an undeniable need to explore its possibilities. During the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, it becomes even more relevant to think and discuss about the perspectives of intellectual and individual advancement through basic education, especially in developing countries like Brazil.

“The Future of Education” and “The Education of the Future” are issues that include many others, like new development strategies, the growing need for research and integrated knowledge, the unstoppable technological development and the extraordinary growth of contemporary societies.

The Future of Education

Technological innovations, especially in telecommunications, and the huge amount of information that surrounds every individual of the 21st Century require a new way of teaching, that will be able to teach children and teens how to fulfill their roles in the construction of the future. A country like Brazil, with great international performance and that believes in the value and potential of its citizens, must create public policies that lead to a real improvement in the school system. Children are adapting to the digital world more and more each day, while analogical teaching methods are used in the school environment, making it outdated and uninteresting for those who are used to a varied world, full of possibilities created by the new means of communication. Methods and procedures used in the classroom – many of which were created in completely different social context – will need to be revised to suit the new generations and technologies.

The “Future of Education” is an extremely concrete issue that involves the how teaching institutions  work and their effect on the educational of integral individuals. We must all take this seriously, as it has direct influence on the human aspect of every community.

The Education of the Future

Reestablishing moral structures and principles that got lost in the modernization of society, especially the ones related to family, is a responsibility of the platforms of the education of the future. Creating new teaching processes which connect traditional subjects – like math, history, grammar and physics – and the many forms of cultural and bodily expression – like arts, literature, dance, music, acting and sports – is a way of educating wholesome individuals that are capable of identifying and seizing opportunities, and of respecting others and the public environment.

The “Education of the Future” is an ideal concept, a way to set up one of the most important processes in the lives of the present and future generations. It requires a lot of care and dedication by the many groups of society that influence teaching directly or rely on its quality. Thinking about it requires overstepping traditional methods and thinking about the present and future problems and needs of humanity.
