Distance education

Recent research lets us know that 7 million Brazilians use distance education as their primary source of knowledge. The rapid development of computers and new information technologies in the 21st century highly influenced the education system of our country. Learning virtually is faster, easier and more flexible compared to the regular daily attendance at the local university. Especially regarding Brazil’s infrastructure and society’s velocity a virtual university sounds more promising than ever before. The entire educational material can be found online and other tools for communication, uploading and administration will provide everything you need for a complete online learning experience. Blogs, wikis, tracking tools and 3D-material are already often in daily use by local universities, now they can help to make the virtual learning environment more colorful.

Fredric M. Litto no IV International Forum for Communication and Sustainability

“The School of the Future” founded by Fredric M. Litto, retired professor of communications at the University of São Paulo, functions as a promising example of the future education. The school is a self-sustaining laboratory consisting of about 70 researchers providing digital learning material that is accessible on the Internet, mainly structured in three categories: (1) course materials, (2) materials that do not belong to a course, but are useful tools and (3) virtual libraries, museums and other digital learning objects to foster interactive and collaborative activities among the students.

A virtual learning environment stands for significant innovation and responsibility. It is one way to provide a structured change into the modern world and the future of education. Whether an online system can be applied to every individual is still an open question. But as long as only 4,7% of our General Net Profit is invested in education, we’ll still face major issues in this area.
