Social Networks

What if one of these days at the breakfast table, at work or on your mobile phone the news announce that a social network formed a government and will take over the lead of your country?

In the present times nothing seems to last, the economic and financial crisis has reached even the biggest economies of the world. What is going to happen from now on? 20 years ago nobody could have imagined the world we are living in today. We simply do not give time to one another to wonder how we want our planet to look like in 20 years because we cannot even foresee what is going to happen to planet Earth next year. We live in crazy and fast times. Statistics document an incredible growth of social networks and people as well as big businesses have long found out how to use these networks to join expertise, share ideas, create impact and mobilize each other for change. It has become an economy for attention of all kinds. But what if a social network would actually form a new world order and generate new morals, responsibilities and rights for everybody?

Facebook, nowadays biggest social network in the western world in terms of numbers (see “The world map of social networks”), is dealing with privacy issues and is actually recording a decrease of their growth, especially in developed countries like the US, UK and Germany. But there have been various social networks in the new centuries and especially China’s Ozone might threaten facebook’s pole position. The variety of social networks is big, ever-changing and we will keep wondering what is going to come next. To give an example:  http://reface.me/ actually offers a service to individuals to stand out from the crowds, trigger comments and make your facebook profile more unique. Their slogan: “reface your facebook ‘cause people read status updates, not books” says it all.

In the end it will be up to you, how much you want to consume and how much you let yourself be consumed by the social network cloud. Do you want to be part of it? It will be very simple in the future. Communication will always find a way as it is the core need of the human being to share emotions, information and experiences. It is easy for social networks to exist present their advantages to people. After all: What is bad about sharing your life with your friends and families? Isn’t that what life is all about?
